fill in the blanks

Think about space, escaping, hiding spaces, building a house on a moving object. thriving in departure zones like bus stations and airports. standing still in a dust storm or at the top of Martin Place. waiting watching. think about closing your eyes and imagine running so fast. you breathe fast, start gasping for air and you haven't moved a muscle. lying at the bottom of the pool and looking up through the water. diving. listening to your breath. closing your eyes.

then think about construction/fabrication/make up masks/costumes/houses.

games/ ladders/interiors/superfluous decoration and the definition of O.T.T . and imagine how much you can hide under that distraction, colourful beautiful creative mess.

early stages: new work from 12 May

Posted by Picasa

three new canvas I have just begun.
imagine embroidery over the top. more detail. another figure in the foreground. there will be a layering of constructed reality and the real (as constructed) with the boy blowing bubbles. I thought to use a spray can instead of the bubble blower, but that would describe more the act of painting where as detatching the context a little will hopefully illuminate/isolate the act of construction/implied direction/of the future/superficial/candy-esque. I will be impressed if you can see the reference to vanitas already. this is fun to paint so far

{small excerpt: i am just about to strech some yellow, something shiney and start painting rubbish cans, i wanted to say trash cans but was afraid it would be too superficial and americanised as I am an Oz, actually, no, this would work better. Yes I am going to paint a trash can, embroider it and acknowledge it in the most elaborate of ways} as at 11.21pm may 12

but what to put in the trash can...mmmm? or maybe what is the trash can made of...tbc
