a brief interlude with my bookcase...Jenny Holzer, Julie Rrap, Robert Irwin and Anne Lindberg's floating sculptures
I am reading about Jenny Holzer again. I m looking at Robert Irwin again.... and Julie Rrap.
How fantastic to be delving in to a pile of books one sleepless night, curling up with a blanket and being in that place again. To repeat it on a Sunday afternoon, vase of flowers on the window sill, Ólöf Arnalds on the stereo, a cup of home brewed coffee - 2, 3 even, 6 crazy books, a bottle of water, my glasses, a notebook and room lots of room...in my mind, in a little carved out space and time that would otherwise be shared with my love or my real world things. I just read and thought and let it sit. Oh how I miss it. Accidentally finding a space to let things all roll together, and inviting me to imagine and to think in that indulgent nurturing space of creative engagement. The weird thing is that I need to disengage to find that space. Because I have moved cities I am a little anxious to engage in a new community, art make, try and get a business going, so slowly... so slowly. I always push aside this precious time, this life blood.
Another echo from the past... thinking about insides and outsides again. Meeting Places.
Jenny Holzer's 'Green Table' 1992 .... " WITH ALL THE HOLES IN YOU ALREADY THERE'S NO REASON TO DEFINE THE OUTSIDE ENVIRONMENT AS ALIEN" (part of Survival). Jenny Holzer's Green Table is installed on the campus at UCSD where I studied for a year. It is part of the Stuart Collection.

When I really was looking for new work by Robert Irwin, (Californian based -San Diego)
His work always inspires and encourages me. I fell into the older pieces though (below) The shadows become more solid than the sculpture itself..., subtlety, referencing the double, looking at perception, transparent sculptures, subtlety, making you pay attention. He was involved with the light and space movement in the USAin the 1960's onwards....
